How to Choose the Right French Teacher for Your Goal
Not all teachers are right for every goal. Here is how to find the one who will truly help you progress.
The best teacher is the one who matches YOUR goal
There is no "best teacher" in absolute terms. The right teacher to prepare for an exam is not necessarily the right one to gain speaking fluency or learn business French. Before choosing, clarify your goal: it should guide your decision.
Define your goal first
What really matters in a profile
Look beyond the rating. Read the reviews: do they mention concrete progress? Does the teacher state their specialties and levels? A clear, honest presentation says more than an impressive title.
The importance of rapport
Teaching method is not everything: the connection must be there. A teacher you feel comfortable with will get you to dare to speak, and therefore to progress. If after one or two lessons the rapport is not there, it is no one's fault — switch, it is normal.
First lesson: the right questions
During your first lesson, observe: does the teacher let you speak? Do they correct without cutting you off? Do they suggest a plan suited to your goal? Leave with a clear idea of what comes next. A good teacher knows where they are taking you.
Do not get stuck on a single criterion
Price, nationality or diplomas do not tell the whole story. The real criterion is: am I improving, and do I want to come back? On Frenchee, you can switch teachers at any time, for free, until you find the right one.
